"HMS Raleigh has been busy conducting a money raising event for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines charity totalling £1142.93.

Navy personnel and civilian staff were encouraged to help raise funds for the charity, who has supported the establishment and continues to do so. Organiser LPT Damon Bell came up with the idea to cover the distance from HMS Raleigh to Twickenham, a total of 221 miles.

The training base in Torpoint staged the event in the gymnasium foyer. Staff had the option to book in 20 minute slots for either the treadmill or spinning bike. The Commanding Officer, Captain Ellie Ablett, opened the event and Commander David Martin closed it, with both taking part.

56 personnel took part in the event. AB Michelle Walters covered the most distance with a remarkable 100km on the bike and WO Mark Mullen completed 40km on the bike in 60 minutes increasing his training in aid of the Cornwell VC Bike Ride which he is taking part in between 12-24 May.

The event ran from 7am until 9pm, with a total of 582 miles smashed."
