Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I am joining the Royal Navy (UK) in October which means I will be doing my basic training over christmas, will I get some time off to visit family over Christmas and after basic training (providing i pass out) how long untill i start my specialist training.

Speak to your AFCO. If you are in training over Christmas, world politics & environmental disasters aside, you'll be home on Christmas leave.
  3. Well i have to ask: what are you joining as?
  4. Christmas at Raleigh is a wonderful time. Christmas dinner with beer, carol service with mince pies and mulled wine and if you're lucky the Bish will slip a little rum into your tea (I hear this happens in the Catholic church the rest of the year too.)
  5. I am joining as an engineering technician.

There is more than one sort...

  7. I applied for weapons engineer but I got told it is now called engineering technician.
  8. As you are more than likely joining on the 26th October you will do 8 weeks, then 2 weeks leave, then return to complete the final 2 weeks. Then straight on to the college of knowledge - HMS Collingwood.
  9. Yeah, i am on 26th, thanks for your help, this is good news.
  10. In case you didn't know (and to pre-empt any other enquiries) Raleigh Christmas leave dates are 19th Dec to the 5th of Jan.

Am I right in thinking that your family perhaps don't live in the UK and that this is why you are concerned about having time to get back to see them at Christmas?
  12. no, I live in the uk with my family, I am just wondering about what would happen during christmas time in basic training, and if I would get christmas leave, as this would be a nice thing becuase I wouldn't like to be away from home at christmas. Although if there is no christmas leave then it does not bother me so much that I won't go in haha, it's just an enquiry.
  13. I am just wondering, is this for definite?

Could change if they change the date of Christmas.

  15. haha, ok thanks.
  16. Spookily Christmas is always the same (and the dates are definite), Easter, however, is a bit weird.

Easter is weird. What does chocolate have to do with it?

  18. It's what the eggs are made of. Duh!
  19. Some bloke years ago was nailed to some, hence the tradition.
