HMS Ladybird

#1
Does anyone remember a run ashore in Sasebo? One needed Hong Kong Dollars to buy things aboard, BAFSV's to buy things in the RN Canteen ashore, Scrip Dollars to enjoy the US Navies luxurious facilities and Yen if one wanted to get ones end away. All these financial transactions to be recorded in ones S43A.
Ripped off at every stage. Happy days.

Ladybird was the base ship at Sasebo,Japan from August 1950 as HQ
for 2nd i/c Far East Fleet. It paid off April 1953 .
It was basically there for the Korean war which ended in 1953.

Were you there? Its paying off in Hong Kong with a long paying off pennant trailing in the water was a memorable occasion. The two nights I spent aboard, invaded by flying, somethings or other and crawled over during the middle watch by nasty Japanese rats. Happy days? I'm not sure.
