This sad photo of HMS Kellington being dismantled at Stockton last month appears in the latest issue of Ton Talk, the newsletter of the Ton Class Association (TCA):
HMS Kellington being dismantled at Stockton in May 2009
The writing was on the wall after vandals nearly caused her to sink by trying to remove a condenser in April but it's such a shame to see the loss of yet another of this class of over a hundred ships that served the Royal Navy worldwide, and so well, for half a century. Bronington remains at Birkenhead in dire straits, Iveston (now T.S. Iveston) is used by Thurrock Sea Cadets as its HQ and Wilton is the floating club house for Essex Yacht Club.
P.S. Click on 'Bronington' (HRH the POW's old ship) above to see a particularly poignant video that will revive old memories. Have your sound turned on and bear in mind that all the damage occurred AFTER Mersey Docks & Harbour Company took over the ship from the Warship Preservation Trust.
