Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

  1. Hi there I wonder if any of you old timers can help me
I am looking for info on an exped to Ben Nevis area in Aug 1972
There were 12 men staying in the RN hut in Glen Nevis and 3 of them went to climb tower ridge on the 31st Aug and lost their lives.
My father was one of the men involved PO Iain Macfarlane.
Navy records have no clue as they state a fire destroyed all the records for this time.
It has only just come to light regarding the other men staying in the area following a meeting with mountain rescue last week.
i know it is a long shot but we r running out of ideas just to try and find out why the accident happened
as the family were told they were doing maintenance on an aerial on the mountain used for military comms but this aerial has never existed according to mountain rescue last week.
all we are looking for is info on any plans/discussions the night before the accident happened.

    Thank you in anticipation
    Dougie
