As a persec failure, I live where they make Ginsters oggies but no-one here eats them, however we do have a couple of oggie shops and the one I use makes excellent oggies reasonably priced :)

I remember the culinary delights purchased from what I think was "Frank's Oggie Shop" outside the dockyard in Guzz back in the 60's.
As far as my memory goes, his "Chiefs and PO's" Oggie came with bangers and beans inside as well as the normal filling. ... Delish!
Anyone else remember (or can correct me if I'm wrong)?

there was a time back in the 90 where a proportion of benders ended up there are maintainers, dam good reason not to eat them.

Pass through that Kernow village many times, passing through being the main thing?

That's stretching the memory, I seem to remember a caravan type establishment that did indeed sell the above mentioned Oggies

I wish people would stop telling me how good the oggies are where THEY are! It only makes me feel worse. At least I can still get some decent scrumpy here to drown my sorrows.

I always look forward to getting down to Guzz as at least I have a chance to have a few decent oggies. Unfortunately I don't get there very often. It's the same when I go and pay my respects at Dartmouth. You can still get a good oggie there too - though the town itself is not what it was in my day.

And doesn't it say something about Ginsters that people don't eat them even where they make them?

There's an Ivor Dewdneys oggie shop outside St Levans gate, Ron Dewdney sold his shop back to the family a few years back.

I don't know if that's the same shop you're thinking about.

Outside St Levans Gate was Ron Dewdney pasty shop, but since 2014 brought by Ivor Dewdney, his older brother, always preferred Ron's to Ivor's.

Don’t get me started on the “Cornish Pasty Company” you can find at most London mainline railway stations! All pastry and no pasty in my view. Was hoping for a pierhead jump to Guzz this week, but the barsteward wouldn’t pay my fee, so no proper oggies for me for now.

When venturing deep into Kernow, Down Helston way, there be a nice pasty shop in the high street, their big, big pasty would feed a family of 6 or me, uumm?

WreckerL - you have confirmed what I always thought.

Sumo - I can remember Ron Dewdney's shop and I heard that Ivor had taken it over. And I agree that Ron made the better pasty.

huwshpis - Yes, I hate a pasty that's all pastry and no filling. Didn't know that the Cornish Pasty Company was still going! I think they were one of the chains that opened a shop here (Nottingham - can't get further from the sea) but soon closed it. They weren't brilliant but better than nothing.

I remember once I had to travel from Pompey to Rosyth. I always used to make sure that I had a British Rail High Tea - it was great! But by the time I got to Edinburgh I was peckish again so, as I had a bit of time to kill before my connection to Inverkeithing, I sought out a snack stall to find some sort of pasty. When I asked the guy running the stall if he had a pasty he looked at me as if I had just called his mother a whore and asked if I could sleep with his youngest daughter. He did not look happy. He muttered under his breath and thrust a Scots pie at me. It wasn't a pasty but I didn't argue - and he overcharged me for it.

And that boring story is one of the reasons I don't post on this site often!

...Guzzman - Apols for rattling your cage but glad it bought you out of the Nottingham woodwork & BZ for your replies.

Don't worry about posting what you may think as 'boring stuff' - 'tis what most of us older contributors thrive on...
