There was indeed a mutiny aboard APOLLO in Guzz in 1958. It all came to light when a member of the press phoned the local CinC to ask if it was true, and the reply was more or less "What mutiny ?".
I saw the file when I worked at the MoD some time back. For anyone interested, it's Case 11543 in ADM 116, can't remember the piece number though. I'm sure I've some of it photocopied somewhere if anyone's really interested. Certainly a good read.
I was onboard during and after the mutiny. Aspects of the court martial were upsetting and unjust. I would like to see the photocopies if possible. "Codes"

I'm hoping that Isadirty will add a comment and be able to offer photocopies of what he has.

Should that not happen, as far as I can see, you should be able to obtain the papers in question from the National Archives once the staff there have resumed normal service. It will almost certainly take longer than it would at other times, but you would receive a copy eventually.

Paragraph concerning this "mutiny" within these pages:

A retired Captain of Charybdis told me a story about a Type 21 - not sure which one. She was alongside in Devonport in April '82 when she received instructions to head south. Apparently recorded going through the Bridge at 40kn. There was another story about him skiing behind his command (possibly Pellew) in the Far East. What speed do you need to get up on skis behind a Destroyer?

If it was the Tamar Bridge he was going the wrong way, if it was Laira Bridge I'd have paid to see that!
I was wondering if the Navvy fancied a quick trip to Calstock...

40 knots, out of Frigate Alley, hard a' starboard and you'll be in the Tamar Inn before you know it :D

Literally in the Tamar Inn, if really motoring he'd end up in the Boot Inn behind the Tamar!!

For those who've never sailed out of Guzz - the Bridge is the narrow (and at low tide - very shallow) channel that separates Drakes Island from the Cornish Coast.
You are correct. (I checked on a map).

But in the hundreds of times I've sailed in and out of Guzz I'd never heard of it before, probably because we always sailed through Drake's Channel.

Good luck getting through that in a frigate without ripping the keel out! Give the emmets something to photograph while they're wandering around Edgcumbe park though.

I'd assumed it was a well known moniker for the channel - but to be fair, I've only ever sailed in/out as a yachtie, so the names may vary. We took a boat with a 12' draft through it at HW but a Type 21 would be a bit ballsy.

Pellew - type 14 - they were lucky to get up to 24 knots.......40 my arse !

Pellew was my guess, but happy to be corrected. Was it a common practice for COs to water-ski behind their commands (late 60s/early 70s)? The story of the Type 21 I've heard repeated a couple of times and from what I've heard they could get up to 40kn for short periods.

It doesn't take a lot of speed to actually water ski, more to do with acceleration to get up in the first case. Most, if not all gas ships could do it.
We left West Palm Beach on Arrow in '84 and our skipper water ski'ed behind. There was a yank news film crew on a power boat alongside us to film it. After he got back on board he invited the yank power boat to a race - we won!! The yanks could not believe the acceleration we had on 2 oly's.

I seem to remember my CCY telling me that while serving on a Type21, during high speed trials the ship managed 46 knots. He was not one to bull.

I often watched in awe when we were working up at Portland whenever I saw a 21 start from standstill on the horizon, it looked like a speedboat, amazing acceleration
