I thought it was to even out working time , most greenies had more time of than Rip-Van-Winkles bunk light.It also helped to alleviate those ghastly bed sores.

Yep we fixed all the stokers bunk lights so they weren't afraid of the dark and could get out of their rack more often, then EBD gave them permanent lamp tramps:rolleyes:

I just direct debit it. No red lights in the QE’s cabins though- it’s pitch black in my cabin! Great for sleeping, not so much for getting dressed in a rush on the general alarm!
