Have you had any further thoughts re which of the roles you would like best?
Hi mate,

I've been reading some threads on RR and there seems to be some conflicting opinions as to how much travelling you get to do on a Sub, some say you spend most of your time around the UK and others mention that this isn't true? Which of the two (E(IS) & Warfare Officer(sub)) would you say gives the most opportunity for time abroad?

I was going to be handing in my forms tomorrow but i'm going to have to put it on hold for a while now, perhaps i can arrange another chat with the ACLO to discuss matters further.

Thanks

Perspective and context fellas. If I were comparing the feat of programming to serving or running for a while then maybe you would be right enough with your vehement indifference although I was purely highlighting the computing merit within a games degree for those who don't have/understand degrees in computing.

EDIT: If you're over 35 then I apologise sincerely and I will bring you your paper and cup of tea shortly.

Crack on then spunka, no sugar and I don't want a red top!!

You'd love my cuppas mate, I have made between 4 and 10 cuppas everyday for the past decade

Hi mate, you couldn't list the books you've used could you? I'll be needing them for revision soon enough, cheers.

hi ill be quite honest i just went to my local library and after serching through there computer found a few that focused on psychometric tests however i also brought one from amazon called "succeed at psychometric testing practice tests for armed forces entry level" written by bernice walmsley it only cost £6.50, i actually found this one the most useful as it had a complete test in it. hopefully that may help so good luck...

You are, of course entirely correct.

Two of the qualities sought in many Potential Officers are Humility & Confidence. It is very difficult to balance the two, lest they are mistaken for weakness and arrogance.

The simple fact is that the majority of school-leavers intend going to university & gaining a degree. Obviously Naval Engineers, Medics & Padres need vocational degrees, however other branches of Royal Navy Officers have as many as 85% who are graduates with non-vocational degrees - here lies the problem:

A civilian with a degree does not an Officer make, it simply helps with regard eligibility in certain circumstances. Often the only benefit for the applicant is the fact they have had an extra 3 or 4 years in which to mature & gain management experience along the way. The debt aspect of further education is offset by the starting pay which is double that of non-grads in order to entice graduates with vocational degrees.

What may surprise some people is that in one or two Officer specialisations, and many trades besides, we actually seek younger non-graduates who have the confidence (arrogance?) of youth & unshakeable self belief without the politicically indignant/self-righteous ethic or the liberal philosophical beliefs or perhaps even the incompatable social habits that many develop at university. We also get 3 extra years of work out of them. I'll leave you to guess which trades they are.

Perspective & context indeed.

Do you really want us to guess? That could be fun.

I'd guess it's the ones that cost the most to train. Pilot, perhaps?
