The added attraction of those MT courses at Culdrose--was apart from hurling a Nubian along the road to Predannack and ringing the bells as you passed the campers,----was of course (no pun) the fact that the WRNS did their 'Tilly' driving courses as well.

Lol I'm not entirely Welsh anyway!

1/3 English
1/3 Welsh
1/3 Scottish.

But I have to admit - it was great watching the French fail today and I hope England go onto slam Wales so they can win the Six Nations!

I'm hoping Scotland win and Ireland lose leaving England in top spot!!!

As a submariner I did my HGV2 as part of my job on the nuclear monitoring teams, have used it as well when I joined the FAA and worked as the the only matalot on 41(F) RIC moving recce kit around the country, I also have my off road ticket for both HGV and land rover.
As the others have said you only get the chance to take your ticket if the job you are requires it or you can pull a fast one some other way.

Creddy, have you put your application in yet??

Hi Janner.

Phoned them up this morning and informed them I’ll be down Friday with my application because I want a little chat to find out more about the Submarines.

Don’t know if this will annoy them as most people would stick it in the pre-paid envelope they sent with the application.

Who knows!?

Oh and by the way - I'm going on Holiday 2 weeks today and my application will be submitted this Friday... is it possible that I'll have my selection test within the week before I go or will that be when I come back?

Unless I am being really thick how can you be 1/3 English, 1/3 Welsh and 1/3 Scottish - did you have three parents or what?

You’re not being thick – Just applying the common misconception that your heritage is bestowed on you from solely your parents.

My father – English
My mother – Welsh

Grandfather (Father’s side) – Scottish
Grandmother (Father’s side) – Scottish

Grandfather (Mother’s side) – Welsh
Grandmother (Mother’s side) – Welsh

Great grandfather (Grandmother – mother’s side) – American (SIGH)
Great grandmother (Grandmother – mother’s side) – Spanish

Born – Abergavenny, Wales.

I suppose you could I’m more Welsh than anything, but being that my father is English and naturally more into sport than my mother – I seemed to have drifted towards supporting England due to being brought up with them through my dad.

Sorry to be picky but how can your father be English if his parents were both Scottish. Presumably he was born in England - but by that qualification you are Welsh. I don't wish to labour the point but... If you only go back to your grandparents you are 1/2 Scottish and 1/2 Welsh. I still can't work out were your Englishness comes from?????[/quote]

Sorry, I made an error with my father's father being Scottish - He was English too. My father was born in England and so was the rest of my father's family (Uncles, Aunties, Cousins, etc)

I'm not mostly Scottish no, I would say I'm mostly England and Welsh with some Scottish sprinkled on top with a pinch of Spanish and American (SIGH) too!

Wouldn't that make you 1/4 English, 1/4 Scottish and 1/4 Welsh, 1/8 American and 1/8 Spanish?

lol Well pardon my semantics.

Yes I guess it does - But I don't really want to split hairs over my nationality! lol

Point is, I support England when it comes to sport.

Pre HGV licensing all that was required was a Pussers test, on which ever class of vehicle you were to drive.
The test was carried out in my case by the Dockyard Foreman in charge of transport at Pompey 1956 ish stood me in good stead for a couple of steady numbers then and later.
