Man and boy, being in the Navy opened doors for me that would never have been available had I not joined.
Would do it again if it was how it used to be, but as it is now? Nah!
As far as I am concerned, it is not the proud service it once was. Crying shame, but true...

All i can say is it's a changing world mate.. Can't prevent, just adapt.. I hear loads of people talking about the good old day, blah blah.. But this generation aint all bad, i've had some amazing experiences that i think top most peoples.. but aye, it's all part of living!

I'm sure the plant eating dinosaurs were happy before the T-rex came along :D

Joined in 64 after 2 years RNR. Left in 75. Would I do it again, probably yes, but I might not go for the same engagement as I did, and may be I should have been an engineer.

If you had asked me the same question 10 years ago it would have been 100% yes, but the forces are being so messed about by the present governement that I am not so certain. Mind you that is one of the reasons I got out any way, my last boat was really mucked about by polititians.

Wanted to be a chef when I joined(or is it cook :? ,but was told there was a waiting list.(truly  ) so they said would I like to be a naval airman.Managed to fry a few eggs on flight decks so I did become a chef of sorts, and my true vocation was born.14 years in the booze and catering trade after demob.

You should not that I said as far as I was concerned, so no, there was no need to adapt, if you see something going down the tubes you can try to prevent it, but if that is not possible, you get out before you get dragged down, which is exactly what I did. As for the dinosaur thing, I only left a few years ago, so I do know what the new generation is like, cheers.

Yes and again yes would do it all again (some things slightly differently though! But not much). All in all with the comments mentioned and memories I think we would all do it again, just remember what times we had

My father was the reason I enlisted. He joined in 1937, left in 1961. I went in 1962, left 1979. Both of us have the same thoughts - going in again but no getting married !!
