I would second Hobbit's Independence Day greetings to our colonial cousins especially those in the US Submarine Service wishing them a great national holiday. However, I have to point out that Paul Revere was a tattletale. LOL.

The Americans will insist in assuming that they won the War of Independence, not that we let them win...

Hot dogs and Budweisers all round!

I prefer to call it The American Revolution rather than War of Independance.

Two Hundred & Thirty One years ago they were whinging about the "Absolute Tyranny of King George of England".

Things haven't changed that much :thumright:

I prefer to call it 'Handover Day' like we do here in Hong Kong. What a PU that was last weekend.

"Good Riddance Day' is how I've described it to my US colleagues.

And as we are surrounded by those ill disposed to Uncle Sam I suspect that today I shall be mostly in a bunker....

In all, how many countries did we hand over before they were ready to govern themselves?
Given the last 2 elections over there, I'm not so sure they are ready to govern themselves.....

Oh , all these countries not yet ready to govern themselves should base their political methods on the model currently running in UK , such perfection and excellence as a role model .

Composed it is said in the White Hart pub in Lewes, Sussex by Tom Paine and his mates. At least that is what the plaque outside the place says.

When they posted it, you'd have thought they would've written "Please Do Not Bend" on the envelope.

The arrival of USS Kitty-Hawk hit the news tonight as she sailed into Sydney with escort . Big as three soccer pitches I understand with a crew over 5K . Significantly the vessels will not be open to visitors in view of the current high alert in force . Strange they did not hit port for Independence Day but no doubt this is also because of the present tension with possible terrorist attacks .

Apparently the KH is non-nuc and the last carrier of this type . Off to the the States to de-commish and all future carriers will be nuc . Just as well the KH is non-nuc as the greeting would be different to the one given to her today
