Hi Guys,

Firstly Happy New Year :D

I'm currently in the final few months of graduating and I'm just wondering what I could do for my Major Personal Project.

The project can be anything Graphic Design related and I would like to do something intergrated with the Royal Navy to make my Degree seem 'purposefull' for when I join up.

I'm specialising in Interactive Design... I was thinking about how I could do something with Information / Communication Systems onboard a ship (Radar/Engineering etc.)

Any 'useful' ideas would be grateful! :D

Don't graphic designers just charge people loads of money to draw posters and shit?

What the **** has that got to do with the comms, radars and engineering? I suppose you could design a nice logo to go on the front of a 909 dome or maybe you could make a calendar with some pictures of naked wrens, otherwise I can't see the relevance.

Edited to add: Sounds to me like you are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

Why not choose something in which you know will get you the best mark possible? Or...maybe something ship/nautical related might be easier. Obviously I cannot say for certain, but I am going to guess that the theme of your final major project in a graphics degree will have small relevance to your future career really. Is interactive design like websites and stuff?

Why not draw a long tunnel and place all the ships, subs, and aircraft along the tunnel. Place a fecking big light at the end and a banner saying something along the lines of "Royal Navy..The Way Ahead " and turn out the light. Bloody good impact there.

Having looked at the RN recruiting website I suggest you start there where you could develop something that is both useful and where the information is fairly freely available. How about an interactive careers route map with entry ways at recruitment and normal career route paths including qualifications, role, pay etc. You could easily do something with a flash front end interface supported by a dotnet relational database. Have a look at this: Career Pathways : Cogent Careers to see what I mean, there are others but I wouldn't want you to be too influenced by what's already done, think less linearly.

What is Interactive Design?
Hi Soleil, Interactive Design covers visual interfaces like operating systems (Windows XP/ Mac OS X/ Linux) and can involve websites too.

Mmmm... Maybe I am chasing a dead tail here... I am tired of doing this subject and I seriously can't see myself being in the industry.

Brill! :D I think I'm trying to jump the gun here... Afterall it is a BA and not BSc (wish I did a BSc to be honest). Yeah I think that would be a good idea, the website for me would fall into Branding/Advertising so it would probably be best choice instead of something I will never qualify into. Cheers Chieftiff!
