Got entry date - Funny thing

niall

Midshipman
Just a funny/spooky wee story.

I have been waiting since July06 for an entry date, I'm going in as Hydro/Meteorology Rating.

So I phoned at the start of January and the guy told me to phone back at end of month if I hadn't heard.

So I phoned yesterday, had a bit of a chat with a lady who checked the computer, said there was nothing through, but if I phoned and spoke to CPO tomorrow he would phone the staffing people for me to try to get something.

So I phone today, he says he would phone me back in 15 mins. 30 secs after i put the phone down it ring, and it's the CPO to say as soon as he went into my file my entry date was there.

Coincidence 0r something else!?

Haha.
Can't wait, it's 15 July 2007 by the way.

A long wait!

Congratulations Niall. I cannot think why you are soooo cynical, though as an ex-civil servant perhaps I can...

Steve.

Cheers guys.

I think it was genuinely a coincidence, cause the CPO sounded pretty surprised when he phone back.

Can't wait to go, it's good to have a definite date to look forward to.

Hi Niall,

See you in Raleigh, i've got the same start date and also starting as a Hydro rating! Just new on this but been reading through the threads and that and have gathered loads of great info...

A quick question for you, or anyone that can answer it to be honest. I got my start date in writing at the beginning of February, i completed my acceptance, posted it off and that was pretty much it. I've got a meeting at my AFCO on the 13th June to meet the other recruits going down from my area... as per the letter i received with my offer, everything is now considered by MoD. The question is, do we get anything in writing to advise this has been done and its green light to hand in my notice for my current job etc?

Cheers!

Just don't turn up one day, worked for me. However, that was school, so...

Will see you there then unknown! Enjoy the first week! Not so sure about just walking out of work though, i'd lose a little more than a couple of quid a day dinner money... appealing though it is!

Best of luck to all you new peaple , seems like yesterday that i joined up when in fact it will be 36 years on the 29 march , cant believe I've been outside 12 years nearly , where has the time gone , :???:

Best of luck guys, make sure your fitness is up to scratch & that your mum signs you off as competent with an iron.
Then you'll be all set

Hi mate,

Good stuff, well done/ How long did you have to wait for your date?

My security cleared last June, so i was just over a year.

I've only had a verbal from the PO at my careers office, still not had a letter. Actually, I'm gonna phone and ask wehen I should expect it tomorrow.

I want a wee holiday before i go so I'm going to hand my notice in mid May and leave work in the middle of June! Can't wait!

Hi Niall,

You get any news on your letter arriving yet? The only one I've received is the official "unofficial" offer of my start date with the dont be handing your notice in just yet message... i got that in early February so presume that if things had gone pear shaped i'd have heard by now... My application started a little early as i was initially applying as a Diver, got through it all for the Navy to change their maximum age for applicants for that role on me so was more than a little gutted... Really looking forward to HMO though, opposite side of the spectrum mind! I'm doing the same with my hols/notice as well, i'm going to sort it so i've got about 4 weeks off before Raleigh, can't wait!

Phoned AFCO on Monday, the guy said i would hear from them 8 weeks before I go, then have to go and see them 6 weeks beforehand for a briefing.

My brother went to Raleigh and he got one of the letters you got, I don't know why I haven;t got one, but the guy at AFCO didn't seem to think there would be any problems.

I reckon HMO will be a good branch, and a bit more cushy than diving.

Wouldn't worry about it too much, but would obviously be better to have one just for ease of mind i would phone again.
Glad to see you're busy at work on your return!See you in May boyo.
