Good News for UKIP

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I just heard on the radio that one of the UKIP MEPs has been sent down for benfit fraud, but as it is less that 12 months he keeps his seat pay and expenses.

It really is so good to see how these guardians of our traditions and morallity lead by example.
  2. In all fairness to UKIP, who I personally have little time for:

Seems eminently well qualified to be an MEP!
  3. Well that's the modern Beeb for you they said he was a UKIP MEP. The question though is have they sharpened up their selection process and checked out any other elected representatives.

Strange that the qualifying period for being banned is a year and a day, the same period in which a victim has to die for a murder charge to be made rather than manslaughter
  5. It just goes to show. Do sod all for twelve months and still be in a job....with pay! They're laughing at us....all the way to the (EU) bank!
  6. At least he canna claim travel expenses!! No doubt he will be claiming for his family visiting The UK is a joke!!!

  7. Of course, his constituents could deselect him, no?
  8. Only by actually having a by-election, and that's difficult to force.

Of course that raises the issue of whether any sitting MP or MEP should call a by-election when they change their allegiance, either voluntary or forced by being dropped by the party as in this case.
  9. But then did the electorate know that the candidate had pending criminal charges?
  10. According to a statement by the UKIP leader, he was subjected to the normal checks when selected, but did not volunteer any information about "cases pending", and there is evidently no way of finding out if a person has, as in this case, used his position as a Euro MP, to delay the course of justice, by hiding behind his status as an MEP.

Any party can get stuck with a grafting crook - there are examples in all parties at national and local level. What matters is that they should be immediately disowned when found out, which has happened in this case. Labour had Lord Kagan, and then John Stonehouse who faked his death and went off to Oz - Con had Jeffrey Archer, Hamilton, Aitken - etc etc. Of course the guy SHOULD resign but the nature of crookery is that they do not give up having their snout in the gravy boat unless forced to. Part of the problem is with Europe whose year and a day rule is too lenient. The other is the inability of those who do the selection to smell crookery when it is under their nose.

If you role-play a con artist and crook, it is immediately apparent that grafting for a political position, including pretending to whatever set of views are ideologically fashionable, can help one's path to money. It's the same all over - look at Chirac, Kennedy (and his Mafia friends like Sinatra who was a cash bag carrier for the mob), LBJ, Clinton (and Whitewater). Scratch a politician, wash your hands carefully afterwards.
  12. Oh aye these twats know how to look after themselves.
  13. That stay in the job thing happens all over ---------rules for politicians voted by themselves!! UKIP apparently disowned the MEP after finding out about the charges ------ the selection process should be toughened up .
All questions regarding honesty etc should be answered-- untruths should be a criminal offence .

Another thing that should be looked at is the 'defecting ' MP changing parties . If a person was elected on a party manifesto then that person
should not be allowed to decide to bat for another party . Re election should be the norm every time.

  14. Totally agree with you Greenie. If you were elected on a certain ticket then you should not be able to jump ship. If you don't agree with policies then resign!
