This is a shout out to any members of the Phot Branch who were on board HMS Illustrious acting as a film crew when it sailed from the UK until departing the ship in Hong Kong, who were employed to make a documentary of life on board during the deployment.

    Many thanks...
  2. That will be difficult since Lusty never went to Hong Kong in 1986
  3. Possibly Ocean Slave 97???
  4. As I recall, she had a major fire of some sort, which kept her in Pompey. Sadly, we were to have been her escort boat and our tasking was somewhat changed due to the fire - like a Falklands patrol for instance. But the rest of the runs in the US were pretty good.
  5. She did have a big fire a couple of days after leaving Pompey, in the gearbox if memory serves me right. She did eventually deploy, albeit a few weeks late. I was on Ark at the time and we were on standby to take over her trip should she not be able to make it.

    Me too!

Still New York was great
  7. Actually the fire was about 0031 the night we sailed (April 3, 1986)
  8. Was on Lusty when she went on fire, had just finished my watch in HQ1 at midnight and was just getting into my pit when all hell let loose. Was in 5D2 MESS. we missed a few weeks of deployment but made it to aussie which was the best part of the trip.
  9. Do you reckon Aussie was the best bit, we missed, Mexico and the 86 worlsd cup, San francisco, haiwi (?) and Hong Kong yeah Sydney was great but I still think we did not dip in quite as much as we might have.
  10. I remember the film crew they were on beaver. I never did see the film but parts of it were shown on tv, Hms Beaver Ships company dance in Newcastle Australia.

I think that the film / documentrry was going to be called sailor Blue or something like that. I am attending the Beaver reunion and will see if anyone has any knowledge of the film.

    best wishes

  11. I was on Amazon for the entire trip. Does anyone know if they actually finished making the Global 86 Film? lots of lads have enquired about it. I know that at least 13mins were produced by MOD films it was going to become a series (like Sailor in the seventies) and it was to be entitled "Navy Blue"
