Getting in after messing up before?

7 years ago I got administratively discharged from Officer Training. It was my dream role ever since being a kid but I messed up and accept that.

Now over the past few tears I have realized that I still want to join the Navy and applied again last year but got turned down due to background check. I wasn't surprised really but now am am hoping to go and join as a rating.

What I want to know is that are the entry requirements (criminal record) as strict for a rating as an Officer?

If I did get in would I have any problems because of my past and would the training staff/others know much about my past if I got in?

I'm 28 now so much more mature than I was but think am young enough (just about) to still be ready to havea good career

Do you have any insight into why these two things happened?

If I were permitted under the "Fair comment" rules I would say He seems yet another the RN could well do without.
However, under the "Inappropriate comment" rules--I am not--So I won't.

Let's not be hasty.

Maybe his care-home have him in isolation, because he is old and vulnerable and he has discovered he still has a WiFi signal.

Two way - at the moment........

Yes I know why these two things happened. I was going through a bd time back then and ended up getting arrested and charged so couldn't continue with training. I was told tha t there was no point in reapplying yntil my conviction was spent but it is now. Yeah I've made mistakes in lufe but have learnt from it and have not been in trouble since and now was just hoping that I would maybe get another chance.

The ones I am most interested in are Aircrew Mn, Aircraft Controller, Air Engineer Technician or Engineering Technician. I know I might have to be flexible so would think about Seaman too but think the others would give better qualifications

As stated by @Drakey, the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act applies if it convicted of a criminal offence.

If administratively discharged rather than discharged under a disciplinary offence (such as gross misconduct) then I doubt there will be an issue re-applying to join.

One of the things that has always irked me previously was the Naval Service used to retain a conduct record sheet which meant that a bog standard fine, such as a day's pay for being an hour adrift, used to come up on a PNC check which, I believe, contravenes the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, ECHR & GDPR legislation. By way of example a colleague of mine (a commissioned officer) was initially knocked back when emigrating to North America because a service penalty for affray was on his service records going back 20 years into his youth - this came up about 5 years ago. He managed to overcome it, but it caused unnecessary hassle at the time.

It maybe worth submitting a Subject Access Request and asking for a copy of your conduct record sheet first, just to check: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/mod-subject-access-request-form

Hopefully that's no longer the case. If it does become an issue, I'd recommend an appeal is lodged.
