Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. An old sailor told me that during the 2nd world war his ship visited a neutral port and there was a German warship also alongside . Ashore he drank with german sailors and they had a good time . The next day the German ship left THEY ACTUALLY PIPED THE STILL ??? and two days later they also went to sea CAN THIS BE TRUE ?
  2. Bit like the 1914 Christmas truce in the trenches during WW1?

I have heard a tale similar to that from a guy I used to work with. It was in Montevideo the Germans drank one side of the street and the Brits the other. Apperently the Germans used to read the sailing times of the ships and lay in wait for them. My mate was sunk 3 times through that.
