Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hi, sorry if this has been asked before but does anyone have any idea what the rent would be for a 4 bed house and does it include water and council tax? Also I know 4 beds are scarce what happens with the private rent option? Do they find somewhere for us or do we have to look?
  2. If your talking about married quarters, you get what you're offered. If you want to go private it's up to you.
  3. You might want to have a look at this website: That gives details of SFA charges.

If you are entitled to a 4 bedroomed it will be somewhere between £3 per day (for a grade 4 unfurnished) up to £12.28 per day for a grade 1 furnished. This includes water. In addition payment of cash in lieu of council tax (CILOCT) will be due.

If there are no properties available that meet your entitlement you may be offered substitute SFA - which will be a private hiring. This is administered by a contractor who will find a property, normally they will show you 2 properties from which you choose one. This will be charged at the same rate as a grade 1 SFA regardless of the actual property rent cost.

  5. Thanks for all the help, we are married and have 3 children with a 4th on the way so we should qualify. I know there is a shortage of 4 beds so wondered what would happen if they didn't have any. Hopefully they can find us something.
