Flyboys - new film

chockhead819

War Hero
basically i have seen a couple of trailers for this film but i have a problem with it, because it seems to be politically correct by having a coloured actor playing a flyer (african-american)in the film, this is what it says "while African-American expatriate boxer Eugene Skinner (Abdul Salis) vows to repay his debt to his adopted, racially-tolerant country. "
so i was wondering were there any coloured aviators in ww1? because i thought the first were the tuskegee flyers in ww2.

The character of Skinner is loosely based on Eugene J Bullard, the first Black combat pilot, who flew (briefly) with France. He spent most of the war as an infantryman, first with the Legion, then a regular line unit.

Here's a brief bio:

Eugene Jaques Bullard

Nigger was Guy Gibsons black Labrador.I believe he was buried on the airbase. He accompanied Gibson on his training flights but not into action. In recent screenongs of the Film he has been edited out!!!!

Guy Gibsons dog, Nigger, was left in the care of the ground crew when Gibson and the rest of his squadron left the the night of the actual bombings. The dog ran out of the main gate during the night and was run over by a car and killed instantly. He was buried on the base before Gibson landed back after the raid. A plaque is on the spot where the dog was buried and is still there today.

Well, that's how the movie made it - personally, I have my doubts - seems like a good tear jerker! Anybody seen the plaque?

I got the deatils from a book covering the events leading up to the bombings. The book was written by an aviation historian called Alan W. Cooper and the book was called The Men Who Breached The Dams. It was published after the auther carried out painstaking research and there is a picture of the Niggers grave stone at Scampton.

I am sure if someone took this by the horns and posted on E goat(see what i did there????)someone on there might be able to furnish photographical evidence.
