FB: HMS Raleigh - 80th Anniversary

soleil

War Hero
"Happy birthday to us!

Today is the 80th anniversary of our commissioning on 9 January 1940.

Raleigh was established by the Military Training Act of 1939 as a training establishment for Ordinary Seamen in the build-up to the Second World War.

During the war years we accepted around 300 new entrants per week for an 11 week course. We’ve grown since then and now provide a wide range of specialist training as well as new entry."

Onto the plans for the closure get together for ex SA Instructors:

It will be 13 Feb 20, looking to arrive between 1030 - 1130 to have a look round the school and catch up with a few old ship mates, I will also have all the old class photos available to look through.

1200 we will move to the Roebuck Theatre to see the last class being presented with their certificates and hopefully I will have time to put a video together of the new facility.

O/C we will move to the WO&SR Mess for a few beers and a curry, I have secured the bar till 1700.

The cost at the moment is around £7 per person, but I am trying to get some funding and should have an answer in the next week, once I have this I will push something else out conforming all the details.

Look forward to meeting you on the 13th

Kind regards
Ian
