According to a BBC report, the UK and Argentina held talks about the Falklands 6 years before the conflict. Makes interesting reading.

Portsmouth bar takes down Argentinian flag for Rugby World Cup after Falklands War veteran complains
A BAR in Portsmouth has had to remove a flag to promote the Rugby World Cup and apologise to a Falklands war veteran after he complained it was disrespectful to 'lost comrades'.www.portsmouth.co.uk
I kinda understand where he's coming from, but it's just a flag. Do they then not show rugby if Argentina are playing? Surely replacing it with the flag of the Republic is just as bad if not worse?
When I worked for BAe I had a job to do in Rio Brazil.
During this time I went to a cultural show which represented carnival (Tiy=ts everywhere)
I sat next to an Argantinian and his wife and they were lovely people. Though they show was in the Portugese language as the spoke Spanish they understood most of what was said so translated for me.
They said that for them loosing the Falklands war was wonderful.
The reason, it got rid of the Military Junctar.
Argentina became a much better place to live.

Aye, and Argies added to the register of friends.
Certainly not a friend, just a couple of Argentinians that I shared a table with for a couple of hours knowing that we would never meet againAye, and Argies added to the register of friends.
They are trying to repel the boarder as We speak...Ironically I suspect that the Irish (both sides of the boarder) have taken the lives of more UK servicemen/women than the military Junta of Argentina managed.
Should that banner (awful pun intended) be taken from outside the pub too?
I confess I have served in neither theatre, but I bow to the comment of @Knotty above.

I am not a vet of the Falklands, I was in Canada when that kicked off. However, I was back in Faslav in 1984 for UK WUPS when the World Cup was playing. I remember the England vs Argentina game and whilst there was a lot of animosity toward the Argentinians, it almost developed into another conflict when the infamous 'hand of God' goal (or not) was scored by Maradona.
As per previous posts, sport, religion and politics do not mix.
Dude - 1986 WC.
