Failed Vetting

It is really sad that I have been told that my application for security clearance was rejected, and my AFCO said there is no reason that supports this decision. Since I believe I have a very clean personal history, I guess it is because of my origin and the current political situation in my hometown - Hong Kong.

Cheers for the update though.

It was SC.

Presumably you answered everything fully and truthfully? Trying to hide or be deceitful at any point (for any clearance type) is a huge no-no.

For the higher types of clearances, they dig into close family and friends details, online presence, holiday locations, as well as personal finances. If you fail, you are not told why and there is no/very little appeals process. This is for your previous 10 years (minimum).

SC is a real basic clearance which (I think) does have an appeals route and only looks into ~5 years of your history. If you've only been in the UK for, lets say, 3 years, then they will have a blank for 2 years of your past which they can not verify and thus fail.

I would ask if the AFCO can confirm why you failed and cross reference your application to SC requirements. If my example is right, there would be no reason for you to fail it a 2nd time if you spent more time in the UK.

Thank you for your help, pal. If you could get more information, I would be very grateful. Although some of the questions were embarrassing, I asked them fully honestly without hesitation. I even imitatively mentioned that I participated in an anti-extradition protest legally and peacefully once. Perhaps, the problem is that I have only been living in the UK for more than 3.5 years on my student visa. My best guess is that I am too tied to Hong Kong and the current situation of my hometown brings an unfavourable factor. By the way, do you think that my failure in passing the vetting will last forever? Certainly, I would like to try again in the future, especially now that I can stay in the UK on the bespoken BN(O) visa for Hongkongers.

I forgot to mention that the AFCO applied a residency waiver for me, so the residency requirement might not be a problem.

I know you are trying to help, but if you haven’t experience of carrying out vetting it’s not fair to the OP to raise his hopes.
