Eyesight requirements for submariner

Hi all, I tried joining the RN back in 2017, at 16 years old. I want to go into the CIS branch as the submariner.
My eyesight is -3.75 and -4. I understand it says on the website eyesight can be between + and -6 diopters, which mine are.
When I applied back in 2017 I had my RC, eye test, interview and then my medical. In my eye test and triage phone call nothing was mentioned about my eye sight, however, when I went to my medical I had to read some letters from 3 feet away WITHOUT my glasses, which I could not do and then was failed on my eyesight.

However, after reading some of the threads on here I have seen people with worse eyesight than mine have been able to join. I’m starting to wonder whether I was actually allowed to wear my glasses for the test in the medical and the doctor cocked up??

I was told my eyes were below VA3 and I was not suitable for any role in the RN. However, I’m thinking about reapplying as I have seen people on here get in with worse eyesight than me. Could anyone shed some light on if I should’ve been allowed to join with my eyesight please and if I was allowed to wear glasses in my medical ??? Thank you in advance !!

Speak to your recruiter, they should have access to the rules, and if any branch has a specific requirement?
Good luck

Spoke to my recruiter and a few others in the office, they all keep telling me they’re not medical professionals and I have to reapply and go through the eye test again to find out. Nightmare!

Make sure you question what's being asked of you?

One of more intelligent members posted the link below, quite recently.
You may be able to find some more info in the JSP. Be aware, however, that these sort of things get amended almost constantly (we have a number of SO2s to keep fed) so info may have been altered. However it should be a good pointer.

If the link does not work Google for JSP 950, or get back to us.
Good luck.

Once a sludgemariner with nothing else to do - your eyesight deteriorates fast and your palms get hairy apparently o_O
