HMS GLOUCESTER is different; she has had one of the most distinguished careers in the Fleet. Unsurprisingly she is held in tremendous affection by all who have served in her, and many of them wish to come and see her off in style. This is an extremely dignified occasion, with yet again a royal presence :queen: marking GLOUCESTER out from her sister ships. The present ship’s company to want to make this occasion truly special, but we havent forgot that it is everyone who has served in her who has made this GLOUCESTER a worthy “Fighting G”. Be proud of the fact that you have served in such a ship.

Decommissioning details below:

The Mighty 'Fighting G' will be decommissioning on the 30 June 2011. The event is open to all ex crew members. The ceremony will take place in Pompey D'yard at 1330 guests to be seated by 1315 (Victory Jetty). The event will be attended by HRH Duchess of Gloucester and families and freinds of the 'G' the parade will last about 1hr finishing with a ceremonial sunset and the last ever haul down of the white ensign. Following will be a reception on the jetty canapes and drinks included till approx 1600 before crew and families bomb burst into town pubs earmarked are the Ship Leopard, Ship and Castle, Dolphin & Monks Bar.
