Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. The naming of pubs and their signs in UK represent more than meets the eye apparently . Sadly it seems the old pubs and signs are slowly disappearing . One thing interesting perhaps is the way certain types of people are drawn to pubs by the name or sign . My small social group when old enough to drink had a local named the Tradesmans Arms , we were all apprentices . When overseas any English type name was enough to draw the boys as if to feel at home . The names and signs provide an interesting view of that land of many pubs and their place in the social life of those old enough to enter the doors . Cheers
