    Isnt it sad when people whinge about it being a little bit cold or having to endure any form of hardship (particulaly young lads today) when you have men like this.

    Tough as nails - and no gucci equipment back then to protect you from the elements. You just got on with it and got the job done. You can see why Commando training remains so tough and realistic.

  2. Great story and a cracking bloke, and very typical of so many of his generation that he doesn't like to talk about it. To them it was a job that needed doing without the benefit of the modern weaponry and kit that we're so fortunate to have.

    As bad as our conditions are, we tend to forget that we are well off by the standards of those who came before us.
