Looking at the "lies" told by recruiters, it was probably a case of what he wanted to hear, rather than what they told him!

Who works 8 hours a day at sea anyway? Shore side, in aa few drafts, perhaps, even in the USN!

Someone should remind him that when you join the service, the key word is "service". You serve others, not yourself.
He was probably one of those whiny little mutants who thought the Navy owed him everything, and universaly despised by his shipmates.
