The RN PEDA is only actually 1 day of tests whereas you say yours is 3 days. And the fitness rewquirements for the PEDA are to run 1.5 miles under 10 mins not 10:30

I'm actually joining the RN in August, but in a few years would really love to transfer to reserves and do a civvi job aswell. I love diving and want to succeed in making the grade.

Jonwilcox - Like I said, I've never done a PEDA so I don't know what it involved. For the RNR Diving aptitude, you turn up on the Sunday, and go home late on the Tuesday. (only really 2 days of actually doing stuff). However, I am surprised that on the PEDA they make recruits run 1.5miles in 10min, because the Diver's Personal fitness test run is definitely 10:30. This is for the Clearance Divers. I don't know - Maybe they are trying to put off people who can only scrape it.

Jonwilcox - FYI
PEDA - Pre-Entry Diver's Aquaint (PEDA) = 1 day (for direct entry)
Diver Specialisation Aquaint (DSA)= 2 days (for sideways entry)
Clearance Diver's Selection Test (CDST) = 5 days

RNR applicants do the DSA. I was thinking of the CDST when I said that I thought the regulars did longer.
Still can't find reference to the 10mins, maybe you just had a tough PTI.

I suppose someone, somewhere has to weigh up the benefits of similar branch structure against the disadvantage of not using skills available. Perhaps it'll all change around in a few years - these things seem to go in cycles. I recall there was a time when it didn't matter how fluent you were in the language du jour, you had to be an officer for the relevant branch to make use of you. I understand that's not entirely the case these days (although I stand by to be corrected - keeping up with the RNR branch structures can be a tricky business).

We have a structure??? :w00t:

Specialboat - I am looking into this one. With your background you are certainly welcome, however, I am not sure if you can be in the RMR and be an RNR diver at the same time (it's not really like an adqual as the old Ship's Diver was). I will find out.

Are you able to give any info on the annual training program.

Obviously i'm not talking dates, establishments etc just an idea as to what is done and how often.

Also what ORT would be available.

I'm mad keen on the diving myself and intend to get my civvy diving cert this year (need to get my fitness up quite a bit).

A little more info would be appreciated.
