Dit about Officer training.

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Was at Raleigh this week, and I seen loads of midshipmen when going to scran, thought why, asked somebody, told me that they go to Raleigh from there fifth week at BRNC, and do 5 weeks at Raleigh.
Don't know if this one has been put out there, haven't had time to check.
    Cheers,

    WSTB

    :)

  2. Think you'll find they were on the Raleigh acquaint (to see how Raleigh training works and what facilities are there). All BRNC go to Raleigh for a day but not for 5 weeks

  3. That's bullshit. They don't do five weeks at Raleigh. They were more than likely there for firefighting training etc, or even down at Jupiter Point for some sailing/boatwork etc. This would only involve 1 day or 2 days at the most.

  4. This what i got told by Lt Cdr Sanderson, maybe i got my wires crossed, but they were quite a few about, more than i have seen at once at raleigh. They was there for the whole week, as i was staying in Conqueror block, and they were in Sir Galahad Block, which are the newly constructed ones.

Possibly I can see the observational error that has occured.

As stated by Drakey, the YO's currently undertake courses at Raleigh in drips & drabs. There is future consideration for Iniitial Naval Training (INT- 10 weeks or so) for all ranks being undertaken at Raleigh from September next year, but again it's purely speculation as it could be that INT eventually moves to BRNC or, goodness me, Sultan. No-one actually does know yet, all we do know is that all options are on the table.

  6. See what happens when you listen to Sea Cadets!!! Need I say more?

The fun really starts if the Army Garrison (2 Brigade?), currently British Forces Germany moves back to UK in the near future. Doubtless there would be even more tri-service re-shuffling in order to accommodate the troops.

Again there's heaps of speculation, but very little by way of fact.

Are you sure they weren't a bunch of NCP Car Park attendants down for a piss up in the Mess..? :? :D

  9. As an aside, all Phase 2 trainees now have to wear a white tab on their RN epaulettes to distinguish them from Phase 3 or career courses.

The reasoning being it identifies those who are not at trained strength yet and just out of phase 1 so still "new" to the job.

You might have seen these, if in doubt ask your local SCC

  10. They'll be plenty of room at Cottesmore surely?

Or even Lossiemouth, Arbroath, Kinloss & Wittering...

  12. Pure speculation here, but it could be possible that they are supposed to be doing their Initial Sea Training (IST) period which I believe falls at around 6 weeks. Perhaps there aren't enough ships for them to all go on so some have been dicked with Raleigh.

Just a thought? I'll get back to my meds now.

  13. Probably all been driven out of their own BRNC accomm. by the dreadful sounds filtering through from Stix's day cabin whilst at his bagpipe practice.

Dunno about bagpipes, but I visited BRNC Tuesday last & there were some worried looking cats.

  15. I believe that they got rid of the IST and CFT phases and put them all in as Initial Fleet Time (IFT) in Term 2 for 10 weeks instead.

Standing by to be corrected if I have misinterpreted your post.

    You are indeed correct.

  17. Good good.

I know they did for officer cadets while at BRNC, but I have no knowledge of IST other then it is no longer carried out (since the April 09 intake), so didn't know if it was on ship or at rayleigh (best not to assume given no prior knowledge).

  18. 2 brigade could just crash at lossie, all that runway to run around on and no planes to bother them lol!...

    sorry if that was childish

  19. Stix, I was referring to your accommodation, not your victuals

  20. Thats weird because ive been in there for the last couple of weeks and there aint any sprog officers in there at the minute.
