No. As far as I’m aware from what I learnt from the RNP Officer I went through Dartmouth with, there is no follow on training to speak of for them so they can only be extracted from current RNP Ratings.

Ah,I understand now, thank you very much for the answer.
I am curious to know what you mean by anyone can commission from the ranks for any specialisation as long as they meet the experience and educational standards, could you give me an example?

Much more difficult. Due to the necessity of teaching them to read and write before training proper can begin...;)

So your advice to someone who is thinking about working through the rating ranks and hopeful of proving their worth to be a commissioned officer is to look at branches such as Warfare or Logistics?

I think You would probably have a more interesting and enjoyable career. My opinion only I hasten to add.

You don't necessarily have to commission in the trade you currently work in, (although most do). For example; there are a number of Air Engineers that have commissioned as Submarine Marine Engineers and at least one that became a General Service WE.

I also know of engineering ratings, a medical assistant, and a writer that have commissioned as Warfare Officers..

By experience and educational standards I mean that for example, to commission as an engineering Officer from the ranks you need to have specific engineering qualifications. So an LET(WE) that is selected for extraction as a WE Officer will have to complete POET qualifying course first because the Foundation Degree is a pre-req for undertaking the BEng at Portsmouth University.

I would say that they would need to be commissioning in a job that they want to do, whatever that might be, and not just looking to prove their worth. There's little point in taking up a job that you don't enjoy, whatever prestige you may think is attached to it.

For your original question regarding commissioning into the RNP there is, as far as I'm aware, only one way of doing so at the moment and that is to join as an RNP rating or branch change if already serving.

Understood,thank you for the information!

RN Police open day - HMS NELSON 2 Aug 18

Ello, ello. What's all this then?

A short notice acquaint day with the fuzz in Portsmouth. not just any fuzz, Royal Navy fuzz.

Royal Navy Police (East 'manor') are holding another open day to raise the profile of the branch and have opened this to candidates seeking to join as RN Police.

Direct Entry candidates attendance at the Open day in Mar 18 was given positive feedback so they have opened up the day again. Service personnel seeking a sideways Branch transfer will also be attending.

The briefing day includes presentations from: a RNP SNCO Course Instructor in relation to the RNP Initial Course (RNPIC), the Fleet Crime Scene Manager on Forensics, a brief from a RNP SNCO actively working as a Crime Scene Examiner within a Tri-Service environment. Presentations are also given on the role of the RNP at sea, within a RNP HQ. RNP personnel will be available to answer questions in relation to RNP employment in various roles, including assignments overseas.

Interested, already applying, want to find out more? Contact your AFCO.

Case closed, Holmes. Nothing more to see here. Move along, now, etc.

A colleague of mine was a serving PC, joined the mob then transferred to Naval Police. She said she thoroughly enjoyed the job, no regrets.

Ooh, forgot to say it's been put back to 2nd Aug, I'll amend the open day post.

Herrumph - Par for the course I suppose: Reggies whooops, 'Naval Police Persons', changing something once writ large?

Idle Thought - If this trawl fails to draw in sufficient applicants perhaps they might consider offering a "Golden Hello, Hello." ?

Cynic of C'ffsea
