Differences between RMR and other reserve "infantry" units?

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I know what the RM & RMR do and what various parts of the TA do, but as someone in the process of joining the RMR, what can I expect thats hugely different from the TA?

I ask because I keep come across the RM being referred to as "the navy's infantry", when, as far as I was aware, there is a significant difference surely between infantry and the RM(R)?

I know quite a few people in the TA and it seems they are very much not the real deal (compared to their parent units), whereas RMR seems a lot more readily deployable and a lot more likely to slot into the regular RM?

So is there anything I might get the chance of doing in training or general time in the RMR I would never get the chance of in the TA?

Call me ignorant, but I always thought RM WERE infantry, albeit special.
