Died in service

One Sunday morning, a vicar notices a seven-year-old boy staring up at a large plaque hanging in the foyer of the parish church. It is covered with names and small British flags are mounted on either side of it. The youngster’s been staring at the plaque for some time, so the vicar walks up, stands beside the little boy and says quietly, “Good morning.â€

“Good morning,†replies the young fellow. “What is this?â€

“Well son,†replies the priest, “it’s a memorial to all the young men and women from this parish who died in the service.â€

Soberly, the pair stand together staring at the large plaque.

Then, with a barely audible voice, trembling with fear, the boy asks, “Which service? The 8.30 or te 10.45?â€
