Devon Live: "Torquay Victoria Cross Hero To Be Honoured"

"He was killed leading his men to silence guns at the harbour which led them to be fully exposed to enemy machine gun fire.

A memorial paving stone will be unveiled in Torquay on Monday in honour of a Royal Navy officer who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross. Torbay Council will unveil the stone in memory of Lieutenant Commander Arthur Leyland Harrison at midday at the War Memorial in Princess Gardens, Torquay seafront.

Arthur was granted the highest award for bravery for his action during the famous Zeebrugge Raid 100 years ago. The raid was aimed at blocking the Zeebrugge-Bruge canal and port in Belgium during World War Two (sic)."
