Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Anyone know if desert dpm rank slides are available for Ratings (CPO in particular). I tried one place but they have discontinued the line.

NELSON Specialist Clothing Store is the place where you get kitted out for OPTAG - if they haven't got any then I don't kno who else would.
Could be a gap in the market here.....

Those have black ranks and stripes - don't ever recall seeing those - first set I had were dark brown, now they're a lighter sandy colour. Are you sure NELSON SCS have not got any? All the SRs on my course got theirs...

At first I thought it would realistically only be Woos that would be serving ashore in this region.

However, I've now realised that boarding parties too, sometimes nip ashore & am therefore surprised we don't have readily available stocks.

  8. PJHQ stores (aka Northwood) is heaving with them as so many people deploy from there.

Wash your mouth out young man - there are more sailors in this bit of desert than there are crabs - and, excluding the JFHQ part timers, we almost out number the pongoes.......

  10. Have you looked at Ebay??

  11. I rang Nelson Spec Clothing store and they sent them out to Afghanistan, no questions asked.

  12. JFH, could you pass on a phone number please?

Ah, it's all becoming clearer- desert camouflage rate badges in the desert. No wonder no bugger can find 'em.

Presumably the influx of Naval manpower is all to do with Supply Chain Logisticians doing a stock check?

  14. JunglyDaz,

If everyone else can get the friggin things with no trouble, then why cant we? Oh Yes. The infamous G10 CHF Clothing store. Nuff said. Always happy to help. Not!

    Your resident J.D.

  15. :afro: I rang the MOD operator and they gave me the number, also got sent some desert ROYAL NAVY badges. Spoke to fleet a few months ago and our RN Tactical Recognition Flashes should be issued soon.
Sorry mate on leave all week so nowhere near a pussers (well crabfat) phone. :afro:

  16. erm..going slightly off topic, does anyone know where I would be able to get black and gold embroidered LT's epaulettes? I know they were done in the past and that someone has managed to get a fresh batch (I think it was on 815) Any chance of passing ont he details?

    Cheers

  17. UPDATE: I phoned Nelson today and they will only issue them to their OPTAG-ee's as they are on contract with a local tailor. Bicester are apparently sorting it out in the next 6 weeks, I have NATO numbers for them now.

JFH, if you have some spare CPO's ones lying around........ :thumright:

  18. no change there then Daz, if you want something from G10 go and buy it or nick it as it will be in better condition and you will get it a danm sight quicker, i still remember the saga of no flack jackets to fit everyone, oh well you will have to have a small and make do. good to see the front line has all the support it needs

  19. Once Bicester get a contract in place, I will be visiting G10 to get some ordered. I'll keep you updated on my progress!

    JJ

Yep, I had a large filler and a small outer during Telic 1. Lots of swapping around went on during those weeks! But if you listen to the government, kit wasn't a problem........
