    He's spot on about Mission Creep, but reticent about the fact that without the US Carrier Groups the Afghan campaign would be unsustainable - without sea power the West is out of business; the UK doesn't have the kit to contribute at the US level, nor, for instance, to mount an amphibious landing in any sort of air threat environment. If we are only to have a role as the US' little brother, doing a job which if we were not there the US could perfectly well do for itself, that raises some interesting questions. Those who can only think in terms of the Cold War being over might usefully be reminded that DURING the Cold War we ran all sorts of ops like Confrontation which relied on UK sea power, and lots of it.
