Defence Cuts....is it time to get some diesel boats?

  1. Sorry if this has already been mooted.
    With the prospect of cuts etc, is it time to consider going diesel again? Maybe lose some Astutes to get 4 diesel boats in?..Base one out of Diego Garcia, on rotation?
    Thoughts on this?
     
  2. Can always get the Upholders back they are only on lease lend!!
     
  3. Onyx is still up at Barrow as a gift ..... although the businessman who bought it for them seems to have missed the fact its a Lairds build boat. :p

    And wouldnt take much effort to weld the U-boat at woodside ferry terminal back together. :p

    Don't forget there's Alliance and Holland 1 in Gosport too!
     
  5. Not a bad idea Deepster but I think diesel boats would be better deployed around the UK and European waters and leave the longhaul stuff to the SSNs.
     
  6. Aye and a replica of the Resurgam in Birkenhead too. Sure the IWM has some midget subs too.

    Ocelot is down south at chatham too
