Date of introduction of wooly pullys and no.8s?

I got issued my first wooly pully in 1976 IIRC when I was on the Rusty B, and had many different versions issued and then binned when the next style came in, started with no epaulettes (it was a bummer sewing rate badges on!), then with epaulettes, then smooth weave with pen pocket, then back to original knit, there was also a brief issue of V neck ones but they didn't last long before going back to round neck.

I think berets came in about the same time and my well worn and comfortable working cap was cosigned to the deep.

Edited to add I've still got a seamans jersey (still itchy) and a white wooly pully which I occasionally wear when it's taters.

They refuse to exchange my old worn out wooly pullys free of charge for new ones.

You could try Silvermans? A bit more expensive. There's also a firm that used to be based near Victoria but now are at The Cut, near Waterloo. They were called Victoria Camping, which sound a bit Round the Horne; I think they're now Camping and Surplus (similarly 'bona'). Two brothers run the place, Howard and Mark - both very efficient.

I have always preferred the round neck to the v-neck, which looks a bit more security guard than military. My pen pocket version is the traditional ribbed wool.

I had a smooth knit with pen pocket but binned it when the ribbed ones came back in. I never bothered with the V necked ones as they looked crap, probably why they didn't last long, although I think Wrens always had them until they got incorporated into the RN proper and then got issued round neck.

Yes, the v-necks do look a bit crap and I have always worn round neck ribbed!

I thought that the Jennies looked very fetching in their V necked sweaters.
Especially the ones with the bigger bumps.

I get same problem convincing Sports direct to exchange my rugby socks after a few weeks at sea !
