  1. Hello from Southport
I have just received my dads royal navy records
couple of questions to see if anyone can help me
on his medals sheet it has the letter R Under pacific and the letter R under f. and c.
    second question
his rating says QM3 and B.T.S What do these mean
    many many thanks

  2. The only campaign medal starting with F is the France and Germany star, I would guess the 'R' stands for refused, as in he applied for them but got turned down for not meeting the criteria. Edited to add that now i've looked it up, if you had the Atlantic Star you were not entitled to the F&G star and vice versa, if you had the Burma Star you were not entitled to the Pacific Star and vice versa. As your dad had both Atlantic and Burma Stars, this would be why the others were rejected.

  3. BT3 = Boom Technician third class?
QM = Quartermaster (then a junior rating in the Coxwain branch)
