Curious about Mine Clearance Divers

#1
Just went through the Royal Navy website and came across Mine Clearance Divers

Tried to get a bit more then whats on the website about them, but haven't succeeded.

Are they considered the same as Special Forces? And also I know in Australia their divers conduct limited ground operations. My first thought is that neither of these apply to the RN divers, but was curious and thought I would ask.

Cheers

1. Nope, although they are 'special'. To be fair, they may work in support/with Special Forces & fair few may subsequently apply to undergo SF selection.

2. Limited ground operations: http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/D...oyalNavyDiversToJoinTheHuntForTalibanIeds.htm

Working on land isn't new for the Navy divers. For the last two-and-a-half years they have been deployed to Iraq to support land-based EOD operations.
