Hi I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping to join the navy at some point next year as a CT and I've looked through the threads but I can seem to find any modern answers to my questions , any help would be appreciated thanks .

What is the pay scale for a CT eg : after 2 years in ?

What qualifications will i gain and what kind a jobs would I be looking at on civvie street ?

Do you have to speak a fluent second language or want to learn one ?

Do I have to be interviewed by the MOD for this role ?

Is it a worthwhile job or do you think I should look at a different role ?
Thanks guys

Going through the OPs questions;

The branch is supp 3.

Qualifications? Presumably still an NVQ 2 or 3 and a BTEC. Not sure about that now though. Things change. Also potentially University Diplomas in languages.

You don't have to learn or know a second (or third or fourth) language. Specialisation as a linguist comes after initial CT training. There are various other specialisations within the branch that you'll discover when in.

The MOD? If you mean the AFCO then yes, we CTs are part of the Warfare Branch of the Royal Navy.

It's very worthwhile in my opinion. You'll get a much more varied careeer than pretty much any other branch. Some spend most of their career ashore, others spend theirs mostly at sea (or under it).

We've altered pay scales, this means its in the higher (notionally technical) pay bands. The pay rate I suspect is what he's after. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/armed-forces-pay-review-body-forty-fifth-report-2016

Languages and that aspect of the CT role is but one side of the coin, the technical and leaning towards Cyber operations is another worth thinking about. Will lead to a whole different form of employment, qualifications and experiences.
