Crown Killick - any way to get married in PO rig?

Discussion in 'UPO' started by tea_leaf, Mar 19, 2017.

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. My partner is a Crown Killick, and hoping to be on the PO signal this spring. We're getting married in August, and he's going to be in rig. Obviously he has fat chance of being promoted by then, but is there any way anyone is entitled to wear the PO rig i.e. through local acting etc? If not, junior rate rig it is!

  2. to be issued with the SRs rig they need to be promoted, Acting local if the unit needed an extra PO would do that, he could speak to his boss, you never know until you ask.
nothing wrong with the square rig.

It used to be a person who had completed PO Leadership Course (senior command course) and professional Qualifying Course (branch specific PO course). Whether that still applies I'm not sure but as stated above, unless rated PO, you cannot wear the uniform unfortunately.

Every day and all that. I once heard an inspecting Admiral ask a CPO Artificer why he had no branch badge on his lapels. He was an Engineering Admiral too :D

3922. Stars and Crowns These are added to the basic branch and specialist qualification badges to indicate certain classes of qualification as follows:
    a. Basic device: on entering a sub-branch.
    b. Basic device with star above: on qualifying professionally for Able Rate.
    c. Basic device with star above and star below: on qualifying professionally for Leading Rate.
    d. Basic device with crown above: on qualifying professionally for Petty Officer.
    e. Chief Petty Officers attain no additional professional qualification and wear the basic device with crown above.

  14. You're not wrong. Although I was a clown killick, hence being a clown AB:)
  15. Yep, me too. :)
  16. I was still am and allways will be, on account of the initials of my Christian and middle names, oh what fun I had when I first joined at ganges I remember the recruiting chief almost pissing himself laughing.
  17. I believe that has changed, it certainly has for my branch. You cannot wear a crown unless rated Petty Officer now.

    Select, train, promote.

  18. Had a google, BR 81 section 3922, June 16 version 3 (On the RN Web Site)
    d. Basic device with crown above: on qualifying professionally for Petty Officer.

I cannot see a branch being singled out to not allow the crown, so either the BR is OOD or someone has got it wrong! Is there a current Reggie knocking about who can elucidate?
  19. You can get a crown as a LH if you are selected for promotion, complete leadership and POQC all before your common promotion date.

You can also become a Crown Killick if reverted or deselected. If had an Acting PO who simply needed to pass RNFT to become confirmed, but they decided to chin off the phys and was subsequently deselected and drafted off to a LH assignment.
