Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Just nipped over from ARRSE to ask a question I posted awhile ago but could'nt get back to see any answer.

Could a sailor, not marine, join SBS.? He claimd his uncle was one such and a group had been helcoptered in and out for funeral. Must have been youngest or oldest SBS in service going age groups at funeral.

  2. Heres your original thread

Short answer: Yes it is possible for an RN sailor to become full time SBS. Used to be pretty rare when most if not all swimmers were RM. These days as selection has become a little more open and formalised route, could be, but as mentioned in the other thread the helo trip and the blabbing are walt alerts. Reeks like a bad newspaper story.
Only <certain member of royalty> got to treat his wokka like a personal weekend 'mobile........
  3. ... and the kind-hearted CO of a certain Type 42 (link). :whew:
  4. Yes you can… the gentlemen from Hamworthy put an advert in Navy News back in 2002 that was inviting applications from anyone in the RN who thought they were suitably qualified.
  5. service personel from the navy can transfer to rm as royal naval commandos then to marines and sbs
  6. Motto of SAS.....Who dares wins...

Motto of SBS.....Who wears fins......!!! :thumright: :w00t:
  7. RN Commandos aren't transferred to the RM, they're qualified to serve in 3Cdo as RN personnel, in the same way that RE and RA don't change service when serving in the Bde.
