Just a swift post for those thinking or just about apply to join the Royal Navy or Royal Marines.

At this time of year we start to waste a lot of time and effort inviting people up and down the country to start the selection process by sitting the Recruiting Test, who subsequently fail to turn up, thus depriving somebody else the opportunity to get the process started. This is particularly disappointing for those applying for trades than can take up to 24 months to join.

Some people seem to be of the opinion that if they start the process by sitting the Recruiting Test that they will be whisked into the Royal Navy & Royal Marines before Christmas.

May I just reassure everyone that you can stop, start or stall the recruiting process at any stage & in any case. In the extremely unlikely event you were to get a joining date allocated before Christmas then you would still be home on leave for Christmas & New Year.

Hope that clarifies the issue for all those who don't turn up for any apparent reason & keep others waiting unecessarily.
  2. Before Christmas 2008 would be good going! ^~

Ah Jemster, there may be good news...

Reckon you could be looking as early as June 2008 entry as the revised figures appear to indicate a shorter waiting time for Seaman Specialist- it maybe worth double checking with your AFCO as the new list is only just out. (Times do vary depending on places available & successful applicants at the time, throughout the year).

Having said that, the waiting time is from when the individual applies to join that particular branch/trade, not from when they try to join the RN in a different trade.

    Hope that helps.
  4. Thanks buddy!

Well the latest is that the bid for my application has gone in as of 2 weeks ago tomorrow, so good news on that front. My AFCO think perhaps Easter time if I'm lucky. :thumright:

    Best of luck fella,

Glad it's positive news. Not sure which AFCO you're at, but we all honestly do try our best, contrary to what some may think after they've joined!
  6. Luton are my AFCO. Cant fault 'em really. Nothing but helpful since the moment I set foot in there. I appreciate waiting lists and delays in applications are out of their hands and I've never doubted they've done everything in their power to hurry things along to be honest with you! I definately owe them all a drink! :thumright:

    Luton AFCO?

    Never 'eard of 'em.

No seriously, I'm sure they'll be pleased to 'hear' some positive feedback, as indeed we all are. On behalf of they: Thank you, it means a lot.

    Good Luck.
  8. I'd just like to echo jemster's comments about the AFCO,my one in plymouth have beed real good. Yeah there is a wait of what seems like a life time jo join up as an MA but they have been honest from the start. In fact it seems like they have gone out of their way as my careers advisor even phoned and asked if there was any chance of being put up the list.

    Nice one Plymouth AFCO :thumright:

GSSR, that is indeed good news & again credit to Plymouth AFCO.

For those that don't already know, it's one of, if not THE, top recruiting Offices in UK. (Rather galling for those of us elsewhere!).

That means they are one of the busiest, so it's excellent that you feel you've received good personal treatment.

They're mostly Royal Marines recruiting staff also.

So, despite the hinderance, they're doing OK. :thumright:
  10. I never knew they were the best o_O

They do make sure that your all a o k with whats going on. Just a thought on a seperate line though, i wander how many they actually get through the pearly gates of either Raleigh or CTCRM?
