Computer mong needs help

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. My shift key seems to have stopped working - well both of them actually.

I've tried 'fail-set re-set' type thing to an earlier setting, and tried following the help guide, but with no luck.

Anyone got any ideas to fix the problem 'insert question mark as shift keys don't work'.

It's a laptop, and I can still access porn - so it's not critical - yet.
    :computer: :pc: :pc:

Have you tried hitting it mate?

A bloody good shake often helps too, other than that just buy a new one. That's what the WE's do anyway, if BAe can't sort it.
  4. Try some water on them. :rambo:
  5. Ha ha, cheers for the help guys.

Now I know what the newbies feel like when they ask for advice about the mob!

Managed to fix it with a re-set type thing on the internet bit.

    Back to the porn!!!!!!!!!! :whew:

  9. Or there is always X Tube
  10. You could always use alt-characters, eg question mark is ALT>63, that is, press and hold the ALT key, (with numpad on since its a laptop), press 6-3 and a ? should appear.

see the link for full ALT char set.(no frankie vaughn at this link...)

Of course, you could just plug in an external keyboard, USB or PS/2 depending on how recent the laptop is.

  12. Sorry mate!
    *ahem* magicteapot dot com

Sorry, must have a frog in me frote :D
  13. Not sure if you've activated sticky keys ;)

Hit (Gently) the shift key 5 times and see if you get a box up on screen, Click settings, UNcheck all those boxes and press OK.

This might work & good luck.

  14. Big help you lot were. The whole thing went tits-up later on. Luckily it's rented.

PS - You don't actually have to lay a foam blanket on a laptop - the fire danger is 'minimal' according to the guy fixing it.

Pah, civvie engineers - I shit 'em.

So no porn, reading msg's witty remarks or being scared by Polish Nastyman for a while for me. I'll live.
  15. I'm pretty tickadee boo with a computer so feel free to ask me for help, if i can't answer i can refer you to my friend who does it for a living :).
  16. A quick clean of the keyboard might help.
  17. I frequently felt like throwing my old PC out of the window. As I still use the primitive (well, excessively complicated, non-idiot proof) PC at work I still get these urges at times. Cleaning the keyboard helps - slinging the thing out of the window and going for an idiot proof Mac would be a better bet :)

PS: If (like me) you forget your password - on a PC you're buggered, on a Mac you can just reset the machine and nullify your old (forgotten) password. No good from a security perspective but WTF - it makes life MUCH easier.

PPS: Glad to hear you've got you're keyboard/inputting console working again!
  18. Now now Steve, that MIGHT be wishful thinking on your part mate (j/k), but its also FAR from the truth.
Actually, its very very easy to bypass even Admin passwords with the right bit of kit ;)
  19. I find a hammer works extremly well.
  20. Ooooh nooooooo. I wish I'd known that four years ago when I got locked out and lost ALL my data! :(

    Wishful thinking? :smooch:
