Communication within the RNR

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. A lot of the postings on the RNR pages relate to rumours and buzzes going round the bazaars about branch badges, SPO roles, training, direction of specialisations et al.

Is it just me or shouldn't all these issues be addressed by COMARRES? The lack of direction and guidance from the top is baffling to say the least. Or maybe they just don't have the answers?

  2. Or maybe there isn't an effective way of communicating them. There is stuff on the intranet, but let's face it, for most people, access on a dodgy link for a few hours a week isn't ideal.

To be fair, and I am not known as a company man, there are definite improvements in dissemination, but wherever more than one shall gather online, rumours and buzzes shall eminate.

Yes! (Or at least the SO1 and/or staff of the sub-specialisations with central direction provided by COMMARES and staff).

Not just baffling; the longer the RNR sub-specialisations dither, the more disillusioned the troops are going to get; dithering does nothing for recruitment nor retention!

Speaking as an ex-communicator, I despair of what has happened in the last 10 or so years since we ceased to be T or G - since then, the Comms world has had little if any coherent direction from the centre; indeed, DNRES seemed at times to adopt knee jerk policy that didn't align with the requirements of the FE. With the dissolution of COMMS(SEA) and the reassignment of Comms to GSSR(C) or CIS, comms is again suffering from further lack of definition and once again, we're trying to put in place solutions for tomorrow while neglecting today's troops!

Rant over - if anyone finds my dummy in orbit, can they please return it :)
