Colour vision & Careers

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. What jobs can I do with Cp4 colour vision? I am already applying to be a logistics officer but I have been told competition is fierce and that I ought to consider a back up plan.

Engineer (but you need an Engineering degree and no dress sense).

And I think Royal Marines Officer.

I am assuming it is officer you are looking at???
  3. Bloody hell Guns, I take it you are part of the Warfare Officers Maroon Chinos set!

From my view point us Engineers dress in 'ready for beer' rig to aid a smooth run ashore.

And the blue shirt, don't forget the blue shirt.

    Back to the original post.

You will be restricted to Logs, Engineering, IS, ETM and Royal Marine. Oh yes and Doctor, Dentist and Nursing Officer.

At the rating level I can't remember but check with your AFCO.

Ratings CP 4 is much the same. It's easier to list those trades that require better than CP4- all Warfare specialisations & Air specialisations.
  6. Yee Gods, a colour blind Logs Ossifer how will you tell the difference between brown sauce and red if all the tins get wet and the labels wash off?
You may also be on Ops and have to differentiate between Green Smoke and Red Smoke to supply different types of stores, Red smoke for more Rat Packs to the front or Green Smoke for bring up the mail.
The morale of your unit could be dramatically affected by such seemingly minor discrepencies. I think you'd be much better suited follwing a career as a Train Driver, oh hold on... signals Green... Red...ah well situation normal on Branson's toy railway.

    Wot!!! Well it could happen!
  7. So how do they check for shit teeth, suffocation, oxygen starvation, yellow fever, anemia, jaundice, etc?

    Just a thought :w00t:

Whether it's true or not I cannot say, but I've heard tell that colour-blind snipers are good at picking out camouflaged targets & it is easier to discern when colour vision is impaired.

Similarly it's a predominantly male affliction - hence the fact your missus always skits your dress sense, but forbids you to reciprocate the observation.
  9. can anyone list the rating trades, since I don't have an engineering/medical degree. Thanks

A A list from which the above specialisations should be subtracted. :thumright:
