Clothes Stops

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. During WW2 and perhaps later, New Entry Establishments' kit issue for Men dressed as Seamen included ,listed next to each other,;-

    1 Type
1 Overall Suit ( 2 to stoker ratings)
    and
    24 Clothes Stops

    What were Clothes Stops for?

A guess would be for lashing dhobeying to something immovable on the foc'sle in the face of Western Approaches gales.

    Anyone know?

certainly wasn't on my kit issue list when I joined in Feb 1951.

  4. Be thankful you hadn't joined 5 years earlier or you would have endured Flannels 2 rather than the luxury of Fronts White 2
