CIS Specialist vs. Communications Technician?

I'm slightly biased here (cough cough) but would like to say a few things about the CT Branch.

Be prepared to work hard. The rewards are certainly worth the extremely long time on course. You will get to do things that most other matelots can only dream about-if you fancy a chance at shaping policy at the 2* level and above at Killick level, then it is certainly achievable-no other branch can offer that. Language courses, extremely geeky IT courses-all at your fingertips as a CT. And definitely an extremely rewarding career at your beckoning....

CIS-Good branch to join most definitely. But CIS is vastly different to CT. However, if you've got the aptitude and appetite for a demanding course that has got absolutely sweet FA to do with CIS, then I know where I'd be snapping at in order to join as soon as possible ;)

I agree with what Flagwagger said.

Whilst both branches appear similar in name, they are anything but.

The calibre of bods joining now means that you could end up doing trade training with someone who has got an honours degree-I've seen it first hand. The branch is about to undergo a restructure that should see it at the forefront of the future maritime capability....

Please bear in mind though that due to OPSEC, most aspects of the CT branch are not possibile to be discussed on an open internet forum.....

But you will enjoy it.... :D

My bold.

Just out of interest, what kind of geeky IT courses ? I'm a soon-to-be SE CT and that sounds like the kind of thing I'd like to get into.

Cheers

Drat...all hopes dashed in one blow! Thanks for clearing that up skipper.
As a Commonwealth citizen CIS specialist is out of the question for you also.

Of course, that's what I meant by 'all hopes.' Thanks for the further clarification, apart from Steward/Logistics I suppose there are no feasible options in the RN.

Good luck fella-I was a SE CT as well.

You will find out in due course what extremely geeky courses you can do however if I were you, I'd concentrate on getting through Blandford and Chicksands first of all. :thumright:

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it! Not particularly looking forward to Blandford, mind, why can't the Pongos put their bases next to big cities like us matelots? :?
