Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hello, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I know the training for chef apprentice is 10 weeks long at Raleigh followed by your first sea draft, does anyone know what happens after that? Do you do more training at Raleigh or is it then all done at sea?
  2. Everyone does phase 1 which is 10 weeks at raleigh, then you do phase 2 which is where you are put to train in your specialist branch whilst getting some ship experience, and that usually last a few months, i mean im going in as a Seaman Specialist andy Phase 2 is 9months
  3. Hi, from the sounds of it your talking about RN training. I'm after info on RFA chef apprentice.
  4. I thought the RFA chef apprenticeship was 26 weeks at Raleigh, as when the job title was catering assistant (cook) it was, not 100% though as I'm on the seamanship apprenticeship. Call recruitment at Jago Road they will give you all the information :)

  9. I know it was 26 weeks before they changed to apprenticeships, but according to the careers website it's now 10 weeks, il have to give them a ring and find out
  10. Some of the new information is wrong. It says starting salary will be £16,656 but it's not, its £14.5k.
My training program is the same as it was before they changed it to an apprenticeship. It just has different terms of employment and pay.
  11. I knew the pay was wrong on the website, I thought the training might still be the same length unless they have decided to spread it over the two years

  12. Hi, I'm currently waiting to hear if I'll be accepted into the chef's apprenticeship. One thing I did not find out about however is are you paid for the six month part of your training? (ie after the initial 10 weeks, which to my understanding is not paid) Any help appreciated, thanks.
  13. Training for chef apprentice lasts for 26 weeks and you are paid for all of it
  14. I see, thanks for the info!
  15. Hi,
can anyone tell me how long you wait before your contract is sent out, i have submitted all the paperwork (vaccinations, Eng1 etc) that was required last week after receiving my provisional offer a couple of months ago for 'Chef Apprentice' my start date will be 27th September, just curious about how long it takes for the official contract to be sent?

Is that you completing the questionnaire and the status going to completed? Only asking as that did hold up an oppo's formal offer coming through where as I went from provisional to formal in 4 weeks.
  19. Yeah it went to completed not to long after completing it, it took me a while to get the blood group, couldn't get it through the GP, ended up getting it done privately so just submitted that just over a week ago. Just slightly agitated everytime the postman passes the house haha
